Evaporasun

Evaporasun is a system that is the product of my senior design project with 3 other team members. We first built a test rig that provided a controlled environment by insulating the solar panel from external conditions. Then, we performed small scale testing of the response of a solar panel to different cooling methods. After gathering all the data, we modeled the effect of the cooling methods on solar panel temperature and validated with experimental results. Finally, we designed and built a fully passive cooling system using capillary action of cotton wicks attached to the back of the solar panel—reached a 20 C decrease in temperature under simulated peak sun conditions and 10% average increase in power output.
